Every year as a student of Coventry University, we had the opportunity to enter the annual Penguin Random House Book Cover Design competition. Throughout my research on the topic, I made a decision to resolve this brief by symbolism. Digging deep into the topic has led me to finding out more about Communist propaganda and its symbols. Therefore, I chose to incorporate the rising fist in my design, and in order to link it to the book’s content, I made it in the for of a pig’s foot. Moreover, the fist on the front cover casts a dense shadow over the little farm, indirectly speaking about the regime led by the pigs in the farm.
